Thrice

floor

I’m embarrassed to tell you this.

I finally really mopped our floors yesterday. Actually when I say “floors” I mean kitchen, and when I say “kitchen” I mean just the half where our table is. I swept the entire kitchen with a new broom, twice.

Remember how I told you what I’ve been working on for the past three months? We’ll it’s taken up so much of my time. And you know how I believe when you say “yes” to something it’s an automatic “no” to something else?  Saying yes to writing a book was a no to having a clean house for three months. Grody.

Don’t get me wrong, my boys took out the trash and unloaded the dishwasher and my husband loaded the dishwasher every night made some meals and grocery shopped. They boys helped with the bathrooms and my husband wiped things in the kitchen. Dirt was maintained. But, my house had a layer of filth that only a woman who doesn’t have time to clean can see.

Since January none of us could really walk through the kitchen barefoot unless we wanted the bottoms of our feet to be coated like breaded chicken. Gross. I gag.

So finally, Saturday morning, after turning in over 200 photos for the book, I swept the kitchen and mopped the first half of the kitchen. It took 40 minutes.

We have all wood and a little bit of tile in our house and I realized after I mopped the tiled breakfast area that I used my hardwood floor cleaner. I was in a great mood and I knew that it wouldn’t hurt it (not the first time I’ve done this) but I love the silky matt finish that my tile cleaner leaves after I mop so once I figured I rinsed out my mop thing and basically rinsed off the entire breakfast area. Twice.

There was a little more water than normal on the floor and I knew it would take for ever to dry so I grabbed an old white hand towel that I’ve been meaning to downgrade to cleaning because I’m tired of the pattern on one side. I turned it white side down and used the mop handle minus the moppy wet part to push it around my wet floor to sop up the water.

bleck.

When I was done drying the breakfast area, the white towel was filthy. After being swept and mopped and then rinsed TWICE, my floors were still filthy! Sick! I promise it looks worse in person. You’re welcome.

I have a feeling if I got down on my hands and knees and wiped the floors again, more dirt would come off.

So that’s the entire point to this post. Y’all, my house needs a serious deep cleaning.

What about you? Is there something in your home you’ve been neglecting?

When Your Sister Is Coming

better to do something imperfectly than nothing perfectly

My sister unexpectedly got to spend the night last night. And it was just the push I needed to take 30 minutes before she arrived to get the newly located guest room from this…. Pin It

The Bonus Room, For Now

DSC_0263

I had to throw this picture at the top, I can’t stand the mess that is every other picture in this post…. I’m slowly moving forward on the bonus room/family room/homeschool room/man room that is the upstairs room over the garage. We’ve never really finished it. It’s always been a room with blankets and popcorn [...]

Book Page Pendant Light

book page light

Many of you have asked about the book page light so I wanted to give you some closeups and photos of it without the book pages. I ordered this pendant lamp last year from Joss & Main because I’ve learned that if I have a great hanging light in the room, I don’t need to [...]

Transitional Homes

decorating with the camera

Sometimes when I’m not sure what I want to go where, I’ll grab my camera and snap a few pics to see what I really like best. And sometimes I make the opposite decision once I realize I don’t even have my coffee table back in place after taking out the Christmas tree. Wondering about the [...]

Decorating with Opposites:: Quirky Combinations of Shiny & Matte

glittered feather

New Year’s Eve (after eagerly working on my puzzle for a few hours) I texted Karrie and Reeve and Maria to see what they were wearing so I would know if I could get away with wearing my old yoga pants or if I should get fancy and put my new yoga pants on for [...]

Around the House

fall family room

There are no words to describe how relieved I am that speaking at that conference is over.  I came home, slept great and then tinkered around in the family room, just for fun. Moving furniture is SUCH a fun (sometimes) and easy (hopefully) way to get a fresh feel in your home.  And even though [...]

It’s Here, The Leather Sofa

leather sofa

My leather sofa has been here for two weeks and I haven’t even had time to think about it, much less write about it.  But I have had time to sit on it. We love it. And the leather feels like butter. Not even kidding. And just like I knew it would, it threw the [...]

Dimmer Cord

dimmer cord

I love this little gadget I picked up at Ikea last year.  All you do is plug it into the wall and then plug your lamp into and use the thingy on the end to choose the setting–it’s a sliding dimmer on a cord so you can change any lamp into a dimmer. We have [...]

Two Things Every Room Design Needs

A little inspiration so the top of this post doesn’t look like the train wreck that it is.  Takeaway from this photo?  Black accent wall. Via @Made by Girl Last week our guest room looked like this. And the week before that, and the week before that. The worst part was I didn’t have a [...]
