Go outside and cut some free tree branches. The bigger, quirkier and more exotic, the more you’ll miss them when they are gone and wonder how you ever lived without them.  Cut them twice as long as you normally would, I cannot wait until our neighborhood trees get bigger leaves.

You’re welcome.

  1. Beautiful! I did just that this weekend, the house is blooming. And you’re right, I will be sad when they are gone.

  2. My mantel is sporting some gorgeous pussy willows right now….just waiting for the forsythia to get bloomin!

  3. I’ll file this one away under “wishful thinking”. We’re sitting under a blanket of snow in Minnesota with more on the way. Not a lick of green in sight unless you count pine trees. Boo :(

    • So just going to say the same thing…. and I don’t have the heart to decorate with pine boughs right now. It already looks too much like December outside my windows, no need for Christmas to move indoors too.

  4. since our poor, sad Colorado trees still have nothing on them, I’ve become a huge fan of forcing blooms indoors. We have a forsythia bush that looks all drab outside but I brought a few branches in and now have some lovely yellow flowers. Phew. Spring slump averted…at least until tonight, when it’s supposed to snow again.

  5. I’ve been known to ‘borrow’ some branches from my neighbor. She has the prettier tree. :)

  6. You’re right! Having those splashes of green really freshens a room up. :)

  7. I wish! I just looked out my window and see that my lilac bush has the first tiny sprouts of leaves … not even close to blooms yet. My aspen trees haven’t leafed yet. They are my favorite for cutting branches because they grow like weeds here and I don’t feel badly for pruning a few branches.

  8. I just went out and grabbed some Cleveland Pear tree branches. Love the look. Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. I would love to- if only I didn’t have a mischievous kitten around who would likely try to eat them! Beautiful pictures!

  10. May I ask where you got the fabulous clear/blue vase?

  11. Ha, most of my arrangements ARE free from around our yard and woods. Oh, and feathers from our big birds too;)

  12. Very lovely! Our yard seems to have pretty normal uninteresting flora but it looks like some of your arrangements are just normal branches so maybe I should go looking after all. As long as I keep them out of my toddler’s reach!

  13. Love it! Free and easy – just the way I like a project to be!

  14. This was a great five minute tip but after I got outside it turned into a twenty-five minute assignment! My neighbors (bless their dear darlin’ hearts) have English Ivy as a ground cover in their front yard and they have not been keeping it trimmed. I discovered that the ivy has decided to eat the west facing side of my house. After cutting and yanking and pulling and hacking and swearing I only have a third of the wall uncovered. Will go back later this afternoon to take on another third and hopefully get those branches from the pomegranate tree to bring inside.

Hello Spring. :D Have a great week.

  15. So glad you posted this. I was lamenting that I had no flowers to put in my empty vase. 2 minutes later, a couple of tree branches and one happy mama!

  16. love how the pink straw from the Dunkin Donuts cup matches the pink flower. . .made me smile :)

  17. Shazaam! That’s the name of my game, homeslice.

  18. Man, I wish we had some pretty green leaves. Hopefully soon – buds are starting to appear!

  19. Love this!!!

  20. Great idea! I have a lovely pink flowering tree which I do not know the name of blooming in my backyard, which is actually the fairway of a golf course, and the branches are beckoning me, except that it’s pitch-dark now so I will have to wait until morning to do the deed! Can’t wait to see the brown branches and pink flowers settled into my Chinese blue and white ginger jar against the backdrop of my white hearth.

  21. Rose in the bedroom and greenery in the lounge room… it is Autumn (Fall) here but it’s so warm that the leaves aren’t really turning yet!

  22. So yesterday morning as I was reading this post, I said out loud, “That was hateful of Nester.”
    “What?” my daughter asks incredulously.
“She has an iced coffee on her table in the last picture…and now I want one!” I whine.

Guess what? She surprised me with a Dunkin’ Donut iced coffee when she came home from work!

    Thank you, Nester! :)

  23. Just went out and did this- you are right- 5 minutes! Looks great.

  24. I knew your comments section would have some good snow ideas. Maybe I can force something inside. I put a little pine bough in the bathroom a few months ago and it is still green and oh so pretty, not at all like Christmas. I think I will bring some more in for other rooms. Thanks, I needed a fun easy quick spruce it up project to motivate me to clean!

  25. These images are gorgeous!!!!!

  26. So pretty! Thanks for the inspiration!

  27. Having just returned from the east coast, I was amazed by all the bare branches. But, I’ve found that they will bloom, once in a home’s warmth. To me, that’s such a miracle of nature. We’re into our first bunch of roses, which is always the best, here in Northern California. Just hoping the wind dies down today, so my husband can do some paint spraying for me! :)
    Cheers!,
    Barbara

  28. What great inspiration! I’ll be trimming some trees today!

  29. Stephanie (afunhouse) says:

Haha! Our tree branches in MN are covered with a thick, heavy layer of fresh, wet snow from last night! I’ll take this challenge asap and enjoy everyone else’s flowery, leafy photos while I dream of spring (hopefully) arriving before summertime here in the midwest!

  30. Ahhh. Very Spring-y and perfectly inspiring. Thank you.

  31. I love this. I got some baby bradford pear branches a few weeks ago and put them in a half gallon blue mason jar. They lived for weeks. So pretty. BTW… I’m dying to know and I’ve asked in a previous post about the wood bunny footed plate. Where can I get one. I LOVE it.

  32. Sadly, our tree limbs are coated in several inches of freshly fallen snow and all their buds are pulled in tight. April is such a fickle month in the Rockies. *sigh* I did buy some pussy willow and cherry blossoms from the florist for Easter and they still look great! Come on Spring!

  33. I love how this looks but the one and only time I did this, it tipped over within a day or two and broke my new vase. Any thoughts for making such arrangements less awkwardly top-heavy and tilty?

  34. What a great idea, I am going to do that immediately when I get home!

  35. I was taking the trash out this morning and admiring the huge bunches of blossoms on one of our trees. Guess I better go take some off! :) Our roses are going gangbusters, too. All different colors and varieties, mostly heirloom. A few small bouquets are in order! Thanks for the inspiration!

  36. Love it! I’m heading out the door to clip some branches!! Where is that adorable chevron vase from? It’s great!

  37. I’m going to have to do this right before a birthday party we are throwing for my son this weekend. He won’t care….but it’s my birthday too. :)

  38. So I went and cut some lovely branches, and then I got carried away and had to go buy more vases/containers. Darn! :)

  39. I would also add to make sure you cut branches that grow upward, not branches on an overhanging tree. They droop when you try to stand them up!

  40. I take pleasure in, cause I discovered just what I
was taking a look for. You have ended my 4 day lengthy
hunt! God Bless you man. Have a great day. Bye

  41. At this time I am ready to do my breakfast, later than having my breakfast coming yet again
    to read other news.

  42. I think this is among the such a lot significant information for me.
