Thanks is for Giving & Other Random Things

This is going to be a housekeeping post.

No, I’m not going to write about how to keep house, but, it’s a post to clean up a few things.  So there’s gonna be a lot of stuff in this one post because I want to tell you many-a-thing.

First, I’m still gathering stuff for the Big Sale on Saturday.  And, I’ve second guessed myself on selling the glass coffee table. I forgot how nice it was to have all that display area. Either way, I’ll have this glass coffee table to sell or else a pretty navy trunk. It’s a win win. Also, we are not doing any early sales because I’m a sale tyrant and am really weird about that. Poor Angela has had to put up with me. And if you email and ask me how much something is ahead of time, forgive me, but I probably can’t answer back. I don’t blame you if you want to come slug me with that cute lantern. But, another news story is that I switched fabric softeners and last night I got a red itchy rash on half my body.  I’m in a bit of a mood. So thank you for rolling your eyes at me and then moving on.

In other news, my husband and boys made more stump tables. I. Want. All. Of. Them. But a few will be for sale at the Big Sale from $60-$135. Or you can get one from West Elm for $199 plus shipping or you can do what I did and beg your husband to get his chainsaw and belt sander and make you a few. Again with the win win.

My sister recorded a video at my house Monday. Wait, that makes it sound like it was a music video. It wasn’t, but we did have some music.

Reeve did an impromptu song for us. Her. Voice. Y’all. There are no words. If you want to see Reeve singing here’s a video that Duane, the video dude made of Reeve singing Night Owl. You can buy her music and sign up for her email list here.

Reeve’s voice and the show Nashville are the only reasons I’m able to make it through the Civil Wars breakup.  Also, I’m trying to talk Reeve into singing at the Big Sale. And PS, I think I’ve talked Emily into coming to the Big Sale too, she’ll have her two books Grace for the Good Girl and Graceful to sell and sign.

And more Emily!  It’s not mine to tell you what this video is but,

you’ll be able to see it in January, don’t worry, I’ll remind you.

Here’s a picture of the current situation in the slowest room makeover on earth. It’s only been about five months now and there are four items in this room. I had to pull the comforter out of the sale stuff (for the second time) you can even see the tag. Maybe I need to go ahead and decide on some bedding for this bed? Also, anyone know where I can find lined, black velvet drapes? For not a million dollars?

Can’t get enough of my riveting writings? I wrote a guest post for my long time friend Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy. She’s doing a series on Jewelry Storage so I shared my life changing jewelry storage method.

Some of our favorite bloggers are in Peru with Compassion International. I cannot get enough of the posts from Jen, Layla and Kevin, Angie (with two of her daughters) and of course Shaun.  Somehow I know all of these people in real life (but for Angie’s daughters).  And love them all. You’ll want to follow along with their trip, all the posts are gathered together here to make them easier to find. Read about my trip to Tanzania with Compassion here if you missed it.

  1. I have admired your stump tables and pinned a few. :) we recently had a tree the electric company needed to cut down so I asked if we could keep the wood. Now we have lots of stumps!! I need to know what you are putting on them – anything?? A finish or something? I’m worried about ruining my stumps. Ha!! :)

  2. WOW! Your sister’s voice is AMAZING!!!! What a soulful voice she has… just beautiful! I wish I lived closer to go to your sale, I could pick up some cool things and hopefully hear her sing live. :-) I am looking forward to seeing what the shoot was all about… looks like you had fun!

  3. Nice job tying up all those loose ends. Thanks for sharing how much you waffle about putting things in the sell pile. Nice to know I’m not alone in that.

  4. I saw another blogger who got black lined drapes at lowes for not too much. haven’t checked them out.

    • OH thanks! I do need longer than 84 inches fingers crossed!!! Thank you!!

      • I notice the post that you said you needed longer than 84 in. length curtains, but if they are a good deal, maybe you could just put a border of material at the bottoms of the curtains, for the extra length you need, and it would give you a chance to give a little pop with them. I have a question, do you have more than one of the white garden stools, or do you just put the same one in all your pictures? I myself, own six of them, from Ollies! lol

        • I have one white one (mine’s from Ollies too $25 was too great to pass up why did I not by6?!) and then I have 3 others, a metal one, a turquoise one and a blue.

          • I paid only 15 dollars for mine, thats why I have six of them! lol Mine started out burgundy, and I spray painted them white.

  5. @Angie – Reeve isn’t her sister (Emily is) – but wow! What a voice! Wish I could come to the sale. I see things just in the picture I’d love to have! xo

  6. I found lined brown velvet drapes at Tuesday Morning, so they might have black too.

  7. oh my gosh. thanks for the unexpected good cry this morning hearing & watching reeve sing & the compassion posts & your sister & friends. what a beautiful “thanks is for giving” week! see you soon!

  8. I just started following you. You are hilarious and so talented. I wish I lived close so I could come to your sale, but a spur of the moment vacation from Texas is not in the works, even though it may be worth it for those PB dogs that match my kids’ playroom and the rug and the…well the list goes on. Hope all goes well and you whittle that debt away. Debt-free life is beautiful!

  9. The Civil Wars broke up?!?! WAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! All Sons & Daughters and Josh Garrells will have to take their place then.

  10. Reeve’s voice? SLAYS ME. And also? You watch Nashville? Why have we not talked about this? I’m calling you…

  11. I’m so excited for your big sale on Saturday!! I’m heading down with either my mom or my hubs (whoever I can convince to go!) and then hitting up the Southern Christmas Show. Yay!

  12. I just can’t believe that I found out on your blog that the Civil Wars “broke up” — had to Google that immediately! — looks like they will be back in the future, maybe? but it does make me really sad. And I just can’t get into Nashville, sorry. I want Hayden to start flying or be invincible or something, since I last watched her in Hero. I will console myself with The Avett Brothers and Mumford.

But thank you for showing us lovely pictures of your home and stuff and hoping your big sale goes well.

  13. I love the tree stump tables! Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a great week.

  14. So I was just going to provide the very helpful information that Ikea sells 100% cotton velvet curtains at very good prices (I believe it’s $49.99/pair for 98″ and $69.99/pair for 108″). They’re called “Sanela.” I have a pair in dark blue for my dining room, and I am very happy with them. Then just a couple of months ago I was in their curtain section again (picked up three pairs of curtains – a different kind – for my living room; which I have NOT YET HUNG!!) and I noticed that they had expanded the Sanela range beyond four colors. This struck me as excellent, because they are awesome curtains, but brown, tan, red, and blue won’t answer everyone’s needs. They had added turquoise, fuchsia, and dark gray. So I was going to suggest you check out the dark gray – it’s a really nice color. But now I look at their website, and I don’t see ANY Sanela velvet curtains. I think maybe my internet is broken. I don’t see how they could EXPAND a (popular and successful) curtain line after several years of selling it, and then suddenly after just a few months pull it from sale altogether.

    Good luck finding the curtains!

  15. IKEA IKEA IKEA
I was just there yesterday. grommet top and regular and, of course, super long!

  16. Just saw misfit’s post above. Yes, it’s the sanela line. in stores and on line.

  17. Sweeeet printable in the perfect shade of yellow, thank you for sharing. Good Luck with your BIG Sale (and the rash)..

  18. Whew! That’s a lot of information and I’m out of breath. But you had me at navy trunk?

  19. Nester – I have that lantern! It’s is very cute. Found mine at Homegoods.

And curious if your JC Penny houndstooth chair is showing a ton of wear? The piping is all frayed and exposed on mine – now, we use it a lot but i know you had yours before mine bc that is why I got it. I love it, frays and all. But I just thought I would ask ya.

And also sad about The Civil Wars – but at least they existed and created for us and we can still listen to that. Good luck with your sale!

    • Mine is fraying on the piping right at the front top of the seat cushion. I’m the only one in our house that sits in it, it’s my office chair. I really wish they would have made it so you could flip the cushion though!

  20. thanks for the love, friend! And for just being the amazingly-wonderful YOU!

    Love you:)

  21. Love this post.
Didn’t listen to the video. Time. You know what I mean.
Sorry about your rash. Suggest switching to white vinegar for fabric softener–cheap + all natural. (note: my complainers about the smell were very, very brief; the smell issue really just worked itself out, and, no, our clothes don’t smell like vinegar ’cause I’ve asked). Wouldn’t switch back to the $$$ chemical stuff–ever.
Liked your tree stump table so much that I’ve already had husband on that; mine is in his shop curing out. Or maybe it’s done now; I’ve ignored it for a coupe of months. I should check on that when I’m not cruising great blogs :-)
Hope the sale is awesome, both in terms of $$$ and the great people you will meet (isn’t that the best part!?!).
    Carry on!

  22. This post made me so happy – and it made me feel I’m not crazy…because my life feels like it needs a post like this too right about now…Just have to say I so agree with you about the Civil Wars breakup – I think I’m just going to play Barton Hollow over and over again, and pretend it didn’t happen. :) Also, SO THRILLED to hear Reeve’s gorg voice on this post – what a fantastic song! Can’t wait to see the video…and wish I was local so I could go to the sale, it sounds divine! Hope your skin feels better soon!
(oh, and I am joining the throngs of folks who love the show ‘Nashville’ too…my husband just rolls his eyes at me when I say that :)

  23. Oooh, I so wish I could come and snag myself one (or two!) of those lovely stumps. :) Best wishes to you!

  24. Here’s an interesting source for the velvet drapes:

I don’t know if you want to chance it, but you should read the description anyway. I love English translations!

  25. Haley Whittington says:

Hello! I am in love with the muted colored tissue flowers hanging on your antlers! I must do this! Is there a tutorial on your blog?? Also, what kind of paper did you use?? I have never seen tissue paper in those colors! Thanks!!

    • It’s all over the internet but nope I never did a tutorial, just google “tissue paper pom poms” or you can buy a martha stweart kit at Michaels, they are really easy and fun!!

  26. The Civil Wars broke up?!

    Bummed.

Also, Reeve’s voice! and that song! Beautiful!

  27. Reeve’s voice is amazing! Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for introducing us to her and sharing her music.

  28. Hi Nester – I’m coming to your sale with a friend on Saturday, and we’re so excited! My husband and I are actually friends with The Civil Wars’ producer {Charlie Peacock}. I’m going to bring you a copy of his new CD – an Americana/roots recording that I think you’ll like. Looking forward to Saturday!

  29. First off, that song, WOW. That was beautiful. She has an amazing voice.

I recently read a post over at http://www.copycatchic.com about some black velvet drapes that she got at Lowes.

Thanks for always being an inspiration. <3

  30. I LOVE those stump tables!!! We do a lot with wood rounds and I had the idea recently to create it into a table. I can’t wait to try it. They look so wonderful in that room of yours!!!

  31. WOW! That voice is amazing :) She is awesome… Heading to the link now.

  32. Just popping in to say hi, friend! I love your house, your posts, Reeve’s voice, your sister’s writing and you! Reading the Compassion posts made me miss you a bit. :)

  33. Thank you, sweet mentor…. :-) XO

  34. OK in the midst of all this…..I need to know WHERE.DID. YOU.GET. THAT. OWL. PILLOW? Absolutely love it, along with your house and Reeve’s voice.

  35. Mya Bergen says:

    Hello Nester!
I have had Reeve’s song stuck in my head since you posted this back in November! What a beautiful voice! I was looking for something of hers on iTunes without any luck. Do you know where I can buy some of her music?

  36. Hello! Could you please tell me where you got that beautiful club chair pictured in the first photo? It is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I would really appreciate your help. Thanks so much! (If you could email me the souce, that would be great!)
