Perfect and Beautiful Have A Conversation @ A Barefoot Day ( I adore this photo)
Random Thoughts:
Does anyone else feel weird about the magazine title Real Simple? I always feel like it should be called “Really Simple”. I mean, I know it’s probably grammatically correct and all, I’m sure they got it all checked out before they called it that and it’s probably not even supposed to be a phrase but more Real and also Simple, but every time I see the title I get a little twitch. Kind of makes me think of two Southern fella’s having a conversation:
“That’s a real nice transmission there, Bubba, was it hard to put together or was it real simple?”
Have you watched/read/heard about the Pinterest debates? Posts like this and this and this? If not, you probably will.
But then I’m gently reminded of this and this and this {if you want a little wordy} . I really don’t know what to think about it all. But I do know this, the only way to guarantee something won’t be abused is to not put it online. Wait, that doesn’t guarantee it at all. The only way is to keep your idea hidden away so no one will ever steal it.
In other news, there’s this::
I really like what Jeff Goins has to say about clutter, I’ve always thought of a little clutter as a fun, quirky part of my life, you know– part of the art of creating, a necessary evil ok, maybe it is a bit of a crutch…
Here’s a little blurb from his post Your Clutter is Killing Your Creativity be sure to click to read the entire post, it’s worth it.
“The relationship between clutter and creativity is inverse. The more you have of the former, the less you have of the latter. Mess creates stress. Which is far from an ideal environment for being brilliant.”
he goes on to say…
“Jack White has an interesting philosophy on creativity. He believes less is more, that inspiration comes from restriction. If you want to be inspired, according to Jack, then give yourself boundaries. That’s where art blossoms.”
Kind of reminds me of this.
Have you ever visited The Most Interesting Man in the world website? You know the guy from the beer commercial? With quotes like::
Both sides of his pillow are cool.
When in Rome, they do as he does.
People have made up their own quotes and put them in the comments here are some of my favorite::
He can count to infinity
When he was born, he slapped the doctor.

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Jeff Goins article. (By the way, I had to google it because the link took me back to your site.) I, too, have become comfortable with a bit of clutter, but lately it’s making me squirm. Feeling stifled, you know? Think I’m going to make a poster of his quips “Clutter is not my friend. It is procrastination, resistance, stalling, self-sabotage…” and put it on my fridge. And I don’t know if you meant to do it, but the hilarious quotes at the end are like a spoonful of sugar. Definitely had my medicine this morning, and I thank you. No, really, I do appreciate it. :-)
so sorry about that bad link, the moment I posted it I double checked and almost ALL my links were bad! Yikes! I should not be allowed to be on the internet!
Oh those saying were great. I have to tell you that your secret that a home doesn’t have to be beautiful to be perfect came to me the other day (thank you for sharing it). I needed it to because I found out that our land lady won’t let us paint the walls. Its one of those lovely limitations you told us about that make us be more creative. I’ll have to send you a link when I put the creative things you helped me come up with (and be ok with) into reality.
I read Jeff Goins and LOVE The Most Interesting Man in the World. My husband and I try to make these up. :-) And yes, I agree that Real Simple should be Really Simple. But they probably did all kinds of marketing groups in making that decision.
Off to check out the other links.
Those quotes made me laugh out loud. Hilarious!
thx a mil for all the {good} links! ;} and the quotes…oh man…tears!
have a great day!
m ^..^
The name Real Simple has always driven me crazy. It us almost enough to make me not buy the magazine, but unfortunately the magazine is real good ;)
I’m fascinated by the Pinterest debates. It seems like blogging was, in the beginning, a means to share ideas. Moms jumped on the bandwagon because they were inspired or helped in some way and could inspire and help others. Slowly the tide turned towards blogs as businesses. I have no problem with people making money off their blogs but quite honestly, you can usually tell the difference. Now all these people who were freely throwing their ideas out there trying to get followers are upset because their freely thrown out ideas are getting someone else followers. If you have good posts that are beautiful and helpful you will get followers. If you don’t want your images and ideas used by others don’t post them. I love bloggers like you who will post a tutorial on something that you either do or could sell for profit (like when you used to sell tassels you still taught people how to do them.) I think the web is being used in a positive way for creative flow and inspiration. But anything we post can be reposted or pinned. I think we should all just be aware of that and let it fly!
i love that first photo! amazing. :) thanks for sharing!
“He can count to infinity” really made me laugh. Hilarious!
YIKES! I had no idea about the Pinterest Terms of Use (umm, yeah I read them…I just…forgot). I have legally assumed All liability for copyright infringement? I’ll pay for my own And Pinterest’s lawyer in case of a suing? Oh dear. Oh Nester, thank you for today’s post on multiple, multiple levels. I’ll be deleting my pinterest boards today. Sad, sad, sad.
Just saw Jack White on “American Pickers” … he’s a huge collector!! Not sure how minimalist he really is! ;)
The Pinterest debate. I am all for pinning from the original source. My question is this: what do you consider the original source if one blogger designs or posts something specifically for another blogger’s site (either a guest post or some sort of collaborative relationship where one designs a specific project for the other’s site) and they both post it on their blogs with reciprocal links. Is the original source the one who actually created it, or the one who commissioned the piece in the first place? I chose to pin from the creator, but wondered about the one who commissioned it. Would the project exist without it having been commissioned? Any thoughts?
