Up Chairs

My husband’s $20 chair and my $12 slipcovered chair.  At first they annoyed me when they were near each other.  And even though I just pushed them together for this photo, I love that you can see a little bit of our personalities in our chairs.  I needed to be reminded to embrace the differences.

Great reminder…and wonderful visual representation! Those two chairs each have their own style, but seem to be very happy and compatable next to one another. :)

  6. Yup….we here in our home suffer from the ‘Archie Bunker’ chair syndrome also.

I just recently watched the move UP. I was completely entranced by it. I couldn’t stop watching it, and the chairs were one of the things that caught my eye. I hate Jim’s ugly recliner, but he loves it… so yes, I need to learn how to embrace the differences too.

    Vive la difference!

Aren’t you glad you’re married to a manly man? And aren’t you glad you’re a girly girl?

  13. Too funny… love your slipcover. Trying to teach myself how to sew, so I can accomplish some things like that!

Nester – I’ve subscribed for several months now but can’t recall if I’ve ever commented. I love the blog and feel refreshed and a bit renewed after reading – it’s not always the posts that I find that do it , it’s the personality behind the words. I have to say that for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out which one in whichever picture was you until finally I realized that the girl who I thought was the sister to the boys in “Meet the Nester” was their mom! Blow me over with a feather!

The real point of this is to comment on this post. When the title popped up in my google reader I thought for sure this would be about what to do with vomit on your seats! (not to take away from the darling “UP” movie, which I bawled over). Thanks for giving me a smile today!

  16. So sweet.
I can’t even look at that first image from Up with out getting a little misty eyed. I think I sobbed the whole first 20 min or so of that movie. (Nothing like Toy Story 3 though… I was a *mess* the whole time!)

I LOVE it! Think how boring the world would be if we all had the same style… I say they complement each other :)

  23. Lisa says:

I have to agree with the previous commenters- that movie made me cry, too. And it wasn’t just a few tears. I actually CRIED.

I love your 2 chairs- we also have a set of wing back chairs that our sons call the “mom and dad” chairs. One is a little larger than the other and they are different colors. :)

  24. Jenna says:

How sweet! I guess I should allow my husband to get that chair he wants… even though it doesn’t “go” with the rest of the furniture!

  25. Gina says:

I love this! And the reminder that our furniture should reflect our own unique personalities-cool chairs!

    UP chairs indeed. wink.

In the winter months, I re~arrange our dinning room to accomodate sitting in front of the fireplace. I refer to this set up as “the ma and pa chairs”. Same look as yours.. Two very different looks but brought together by the warmth of the fire. I question it sometimes, but sitting there reading together, I don’t care at all. I do welcome spring when I can seperate them once more, though!

  40. Harriet says:

Soooooo great! What an amazing eye that you even picked up on that!
    You’re the best, Nester! :)

  41. Hailey says:

This is too funny! And you have a great eye to catch something like that!! lol.
It’s such a cute movie, but it makes me get all teary every time. Thanks for the reminder. We have a lot of style differences between me and my husband. For example, he refuses to let me fix up his brother’s dresser (he passed away from cancer about 10 years ago). It really needs some TLC, but he wants it to stay exactly the way it is. And I just have to let it go, which is fine. Some things are better left alone. :) Great post!

  42. Holly Andler says:

that is hilarious and incredibly sweet. i cried my eyes out when I watched UP.

  43. Haha…LOVE it! :)

  44. Such a great observation! Thanks for the smile.

  45. Dad says:

I need to find your mom a chair and move it next to the one you gave me that I sit in all the time and do all my serious thinkin in. She’s my Ellie.

I had to hide my face at “Thanks for the adventure. Now go have one of your own.” But it made me want to go have an adventure.

By the way, we have a friend who is friends with Carl’s voice. She’s having lunch with him in Greensboro when Carl’s voice does his FDR show there next month.

  46. Lolo says:

“Up”….so sweet (and sad!) Dang kid’s movies always make me cry (im so hormonal lately!) Too cute the “his” and “hers” chairs. We just have a “his” for now……I better get on the “hers”!

ps – how cute that your dad posted?! Love that ;)

  47. Carmel says:

The best Disney movie ever- besides Meet the Robinsons, of course. I think the best interiors are ones that represent the styles of all who live there! This was such a sweet post- love it!

  48. I really like that movie. You’re right, your chairs do look like their chairs!

  49. kelly says:

preciousness all around…from the chairs to the movie! The first 20 minutes seriously gets me (as many others have said.) If you haven’t seen the photos from wildflowers photography of the UP wedding, you might want to take a look. more preciousness to make you smile.
