Yesterday was the most hysterical day in the comments ever. Thank you all so much for your concern and ideas and helping me figure out whether or not this fella was satanic. Thanks to a few of you smarter than me people, I am now sure that this is NOT a ram but an antelope. Not only that, the creators, in Haiti meant for it to be a Peace Antelope. My husband is fine with him in the house, he just wasn’t crazy about him in the bedroom~even though he’s all about hanging up his grandfather’s 100 year old shotgun in our room but whatever. So, I think he looks very happy in my office, and I haven’t changed my opinion about the Antelope, I love him. But he does need a name, don’t you think? Rufus?
And OH, some of your ideas–paint glow in the dark eyes on him, add lipstick to his lips, make him a crucifix necklace, perch a bird on his horns {I might really do that one} the ideas were fantastic!
Look closely at my ceiling in this photo. Do you see it? He’s now mocking me with cartoon like laughter, in double. The shadow of his ears on the ceiling make it look like his big pie hole is open and dramastically reduce the scary feeling anyone might have when looking at him.
Because of all my nonsense this week, I’ve forgotten to announce the winners of the Vintage Pearl and Willow House giveaways. I promise, tomorrow. Or Monday. Yes, winners will be announced by early next week. I’m off to hang out with my friend Laura and learn from Eddie Ross today at the Metrolina, is anyone reading this gonna be there too?
And disclaimer {am I going to have to start doing that? please, no}:: that wreath and tree are just in there, the wreath is fragile so I have to have it out of my clumsy way or else. So I had a nail there and up it went, half my house is like that, just thrown up there for now to get it out of the way. It wasn’t a “oh this is the perfect place for this wreath” decision. You all know that right? I don’t need to write disclaimers on every post telling you what’s not done or why I know it’s less than perfect. I’m too lazy anyway.
Have a wonderful Saturday!

He was made in Haiti??? I have made 2 trips to Haiti since the quake – last time worked with a team rebuilding houses. Our ‘boss man’ was named Onel. Pronounced oh-NELL.
So you could name him after a genuine Haitian. :)
LOVE that!
totally. you HAVE to name him Onel.
Much better. I think a necklace might dress him up. What is that wreath made of?
Please no disclaimers. I have faith that the internets are nice enough to not have it come to that. I like your antelope and where he lives.
Aw buggers, sorry I missed you. I went with Eddie yesterday. You’re gonna love it.
Love the antelope, but I love his shadow even more as he is guffawing (a favorite word of mine). No disclaimers! Have fun with Eddie. I went on one of his flea market shopping trips and had the best time.
I think your wreath has found a great home! It looks awesome against the brown wall, and compliments Rufus quite nicely, I must say! He looks cute in there!
Yep! He is laughing! Times 2! Too funny!
Well as it turns out, the office is actually the best place for him or her:) I really like it there. As for the wreath, had you not disclaimed, I would have thought you put it there on purpose, and liked. I do like the wreath there. It really comes down to if you do. If you do, case closed:)
Peace to your office!
Disclaimer 2:: it’s not that I do or don’t like it there, I just PUT it there to keep it out of my hair. Not that it would technically be in my literal hair, that’s just a phrase people use. but, yes, it looks very pretty on that wall, he’s just waiting to be moved to another room once I deem it wreath worthy.
That came out much less funny that it seemed in my head.
LOL! Oh, you are too funny with hurrying up and putting him in another spot. Well, I still think he is very chic. And I think he looks fantastic in that spot. And you know what’s funny? You wrote your “disclaimer” but when I looked at the photo, I said, “Oh, he looks great up there, with the white complements in the room and especially that wreath.” I think you should keep it there!
Best,
Gloria
P.S. Personally, I like “Anton the Antelope” ;)
Much better placement for Satan ram! LOL Laughed heartily at the comments yesterday. I’d like more info and maybe a close-up photo of the wreath. It is very pretty and caught my eye in the pic even before Beelzebub did! :-)
coming soon, and the tree too!
I feel you, there are two antique guns in my bedroom and I make the hubby hide them in the closet. He doesn’t understand why I think weaponry, dead bears, or gigantic (I kid you not, bigger than my livingroom portrait) portraits of his family from when he was two are not what I consider mood-makers in the bedroom. Call me picky, I guess. He better watch himself or I’ll decorate the room in pink fluffies and we’ll see who’s uncomfortable then…
I said livingroom portrait because there is no coffee in my brain, but I meant DININGROOM TABLE.
My sister sent me your way and I’m so glad she did!! You have given me the courage to decorate with some fun stuff that makes me happy…..Exhibit A: a small powder room with lots of different birds/nest etc., with a small painting of a cat. Three people have come out of the bathroom laughing, makes me laugh too! I love your blog!!! ~LeslieMichele
Rufus looks so much better in your office with all of your other white accents – even if his antlers double up in shadow on your ceiling.
After reading your disclaimer I had to go back thru your photos to see what you were talking about. I would have never even thought it was just “there” since you can’t tell what is on the other side of the room. No perfection right – so no disclaimers. Your wreath looks good right where it is.
My best- Diane
I think your antelope needs a red nose and some sleigh bells for Christmas! :)
Just recently discovered your blog/website. LOVE IT!
This antelope is only slightly creepy, but I feel better about him knowing he is an antelope and not a ram. :)
Also, your carpet is GOR-GEOUS.
{As is pretty much everything in your house!}
One day…I will have style. :D For now, we’re in limbo mode/purging mode {i absolutely love purging} as we’re moving to Africa in August 2011 for a couple years. I’m excited to get creative with whatever kind of home we live in while we’re there!
The office is a PERFECT place to hang an animal head! He looks good in there and I’m glad you don’t have to worry about him possessing your family anymore. Ha!
I’m siding with your husband on this one…I’d much rather have a vintage gun in my bedroom than the antelope! He’s a little creepy. But not satanic. So I’m sure he looks good (?) hanging in your office.
Oh, boy…miss a day, miss a lot!! I missed yesterday’s post, so had to go back and read that (haven’t had time yet to peruse the almost 300 comments!!) but I’ll say I’m glad you found out the origins of your antelope, and yeah…I still find him creepy. Sorry. :) But totally had to ‘search’ the pictures to find what you were even talking about in your disclaimer!! So, no worries – we’re all to ‘wowed’ by the gorgeousness of your home to even think anything could be out of place!! :)
as for the disclaimer…. In your 31 days posts, you suggested that we stop apologizing… that probably could be said for disclaimers too :)
Much better in the office….
After some of yesterdays comments, I understand why you felt the need for the disclaimers. Everything in The Nest is subject to change at anytime! That’s what we love about you…
I love the antelope/ram/sheep/goat/satan in the office. It looks 10 times bigger than it did yesterday. And the laughing !! HA! I can hear him baa/neigh/bleat/laugh-ing right now. Hysterical.
So much better in the office. Although, I wouldn’t go in there alone if I were you.
Annie or Francis.
Dee
I actually like the wreath where it is! If you hadn’t wrote that it was un-intentionally placed there, it never would have crossed my mind.
Also, love the antelope in your office; the perfect spot.
I like Marcus for a name for him :-)
I agree about the wreath! I think it looks great where it’s at!
Technically, the gun in the bedroom can be used to intimidate potential intruders. Papier mache antelope? Not so much. :)
His shadow reminds me of rudolph hehehe. He’ll fit right in with your christmas decor =) Love where he’s placed now. That little guy has sure stirred up his fair share of conversation, hasn’t he?
Well, I think your Peace Antelope is actually a female of the species and should be given a name like “Dorcas” or “Tabitha” – which both mean “gazelle” which is something like an antelope.
I think Tabitha is perfect!
I agree with the group that no one should make a disclaimer, especially not The Nester! But I must confess that when I saw that picture I wondered, “What is she doing with that wreath right there?” Sorry. But the antelope looks fabulous – love the shadows!! He’s going to be a lot of fun!
I missed yesterday, I need to go check the comments to see what was so funny. The shadows are hysterical. That’s reason enough to leave him up. :)
And I adore the rug in this room! How did I miss this before? It’s beautiful.
~No disclaimers, unless you’re feeling particularly witty.
~ LOVE the antelope. I thought he looked great in the bedroom.
~Satanic?! With FLOWERS on his antlers? Puh-lease.
Let’s not over think the thing! LOL I think you needed to move him because he creeped out hubby, but I love the solution. I love the pictures of your home! It looks so together – in the sense that it flows visually. Love that. As an artist I should have that touch – but I don’t. I steal ideas from other peoples’ picture and magazines… >sigh<
I agree with your hubby… it looks much better in your office than over your bed. I KNEW you’d figure it out. :)
Hi Nester
First of all, I LOVE your blog. I can so relate with your bio in regards to being a decorator & a renter (!) So thank you! I wondered where you got your beautiful bird lampstands? I LOVE them!
These antelope/ram posts are really cracking me up. I do like it too, but then I start to wonder if it does look satanic, and then I’m like: nah it’s awesome. Then I start to wonder again. Maybe if you give up on it it would be a good vintage hat/ necklace holder. I do like it…
Okay, so seriously, what’s with men and wanting to hang their shotguns on the wall like a trophy room? I keep having to remind T that we are not the Clampetts. For real. I’m so glad your non-Satanic, peace goat antelope has a happy new home in a new room. :)
These conversations/posts have me cracking up! I didnt’ even notice the wreath, other than thinking the antelope was a nice accent with the white in the room- and it took me three scrolls to find the tree! LOL! Nester, if it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful, disclaimers aren’t needed right? (Please say yes, or I will be back to apologizing for my 100 yr old work in progress home!)
A little bling might be nice but it must be chunky, masculine because he looks like a confident fellow. A bird? Not a bad idea because it would say that he is also gentle.
Those double shadows looks as if he is indeed laughing.
I like!!! That’s a nice location, and antelopes are graceful. So yes, he could be a peace antelope. Not only that, it adds a touch of whimsy to the wall.
Disclaimer? I thought the wreath and tree looked really nice there. As a matter of fact, I was thinking that your office is looking really beautiful. I, also, want more info on that wreath, it is gorgeous. The “antelope” looks so much better there, still not a fan of Rufus, though.
I got a giggle from Christy calling him Beelzebub! I think that could be a great name for him. While I agree that he is somehow less creepy in the office, the double-laughing shadow is just further proof of his mystical powers if you ask me (hee hee)!
It all looks fabulous!
When I decorate with something (or in some way) that no one else likes or deems “weird,” then I know I have nailed it. I have found something that I alone love and that screams “I have balls!”
You go girl! Stay out of that box!
Oh nester, take that thing back to the store before it is too late, however, my husband thinks you ought to just go for it and paint it black to enhance that devilish feel. (If you wanted our opinion)
Hated it in the bedroom, LOVE it in the office! I love that white wreath too. Did you make it or get it at MarshMaxx?
Puhlease…if you added disclaimers it would totally negate the “Nester” vibe of your blog! We love you, your style, your candor, and your endless bloggy spirit! And that creature with strangely NON-innocent-and-even-more-suspicious-and-oh-too-obviously-placed flowers is creepy. Plain and simple–toss him in the pile for next year’s (month’s? quarter’s?) yard sale…
and WHERE did you get that incredible rug!?
Just wanted to say I have been following your site for some time and really got a kick out of the “head”! I, an animal loving vegetarian married to the “great white hunter” himself …. have fallen prey to the “head”! I not only have one but two in my living room….. it was a compromise….. to say the least!!!! The conditions for there co- inhabitations are as follows… names, and the right to vandalize them when the mood strikes. We are the proud owners of John deer and Earl the elk, sad I know but I do love my husband and this is part of who he is…. As I type my other half who has inducted my two sons into the “fold” are in Colorado looking for more basic brown animals…. what can I say gotta love em! Thank you for your blog… it brings alot to my day.
Love the”critter”! Being a Haitian he/she antelope, and French the main language,i was thinking Andre. Then saw Anton. Like Onel, too! But being also peaceful, and undoubtedly a great thinker, how about Aristotle? No matter what, love it and glad he/she will be thinking right along with you in your no!disclaimer office. :D
That is the funniest, quirkiest thing I have ever seen! I have to agree with your hubs on not having it in the bedroom! I don’t think I could sleep with it above my head either!
Cindy
That is the funniest, quirkiest thing I have ever seen!
Cindy
Well, if you’re going to have one of these, okay. I wouldn’t, but this isn’t my house!
I would suggest naming him Wally, because he hangs on the wall (not Rufus, he’s not hanging on the roof!).
karin
I think you should call him “Bruce.” Love your site!
