31 Days To A Less Messy Nest Day 3:: Drawer Basket

I promise this entire series is NOT about baskets.

But today is again.

Whenever I see a rectangular or square shallow basket at a thrift store, I buy it.  Why?  Because I still have drawers that aren’t organized.  And, you can wash or rinse out baskets and let them dry in the sun so they are all clean.

Ideally, I’d love to have my drawers filled with baskets that all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle that way my knives won’t move around when I open the drawer.

When I run out of baskets I use any kind of wooden divider or even miniature drawers I found thrifting to help organize.  It’s still a mess but, it feels better than one big pile of mess.

I use baskets to hold our poisonous plastic lids which I’m sure are killing us all.

And also for the lids to my pots and pans.  I used baskets even when my cabinets didn’t have those fancy pull out things.

I even use baskets instead of drawers.

How do you organize your drawers?

  1. I love this idea….OH wow….gonna get me some baskets for MY poisonous plastic lids too!!! Yay!

    • I love the basket idea. Baskets are the easiest way to organize and depending on the basket it can add a beautiful touch to any room. I have a few baskets made by Baskets by Vicky, that I use in my bathroom for toiletrees, for my magazines, and even in my kitchen for utencils. The website is below please check it out if you are an organizing machine like I am.

I also love the hampers she makes.

  2. I never know what to do with those pull out drawers. Mine are so narrow. The baskets will totally work for those.

I’m certain the plastic lids are killing us, too. ;-)

  3. i use silverware trays to organize the the junk drawer and bathroom drawers.
i do have a basket under the bathroom sink filled with all my daily needs. i pull it out to get ready, than tuck it back in it’s place when i am done. when i travel in-state i just grab my basket and take it with me. however, if i could design my own bathroom it would have a corner cabinet on the counter. the would have outlets in it. i’d leave my hairdryer and straightener plugged in, and tucked away in there. i’d also have some sort of lazy susan in that corner cabinet with all my preparation needs in it. when i was done, i could just tuck everything in, and shut the cabinet doors. someday.

  4. I like the baskets for lids…although our plastic lids wouldn’t fit in that one little basket. I have a whole drawer just for lids. But I might get a basket for the metal lids.

  5. For some bulkier items stored in drawers I recommend using old ice cream tubs. They fit all kinds of things and you can hide some of the mess using the lids (labelled of course).
