When Motivation Strikes

If you suddenly find yourself motivated to paint your hutch and dining room table and 5907 billion chairs

do not, I repeat DO NOT do anything but follow that motivation.

Don’t ever squander the precious gift of motivation, come Home Goods or high water, I’m painting today, I have no idea how long this motivation will stay with me so I need to use it all up while I can.

See you soon.

No truer words were ever spoken! I plan to get my backyard completely refreshed this weekend—must strike while the iron is hot!

Motivation has struck! Now I am off to thrift store shop and then get paint. Thank you! I will put my energy into this instead of getting a puppy :) LOL!

YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!! for motivation. Can you put some in an envelope and mail it to me? lol … I really need a BIG dose right about now, I bought the cutest little hutch at the swap meet for $15 (I know, can you believe it?) and really need to paint it so I can start displaying my “stuff”…it’s been sitting around waiting for me to get to it for almost a year now… but I seem to have a case of motivation deficiency…maybe, I should check at the Health Food Store and see if they carry and vitamin “M” lol

Can’t wait to see the finished project!

Love that color! I always have motivation to do things like this, but it never seems to last long enough so I can actually DO what I wanted. Good for you! It looks awesome!

(Just discovered your blog a few days ago and LOVE it! One of my new favorites!)

Ok question about all of the beautiful painting that you do. Do you put a top coat over the whole thing when you are done like polyurethane? I hate that tacky feeling of the paint that sticks around for months after you paint a peice of recycled furniture. I tried poly but it has a yellow tinge to it and did not like that look. How do you make it turn out so great everytime and not chip? I tried to look through your archives but did not find my answer sorry if I missed it!

I have those black/wood chairs. Please show me what to do with them.

Come Home Goods or high water. You are FUNNY.

So you’ve taken the plunge into adding layers of paint, have you? You may need to go back to The Cottage again, just for more inspiration.

Can’t wait to see what you’ve done. Hope you and your family have a wonderful, wonderful weekend.

Love it!! What color is that??? Is it just my monitor or is it a greenish brown? Loving it!!! share your color/brand please! I have been wanting to paint my corner TV stand but dragging my feet..you made me want to run out and buy paint this weekend much to hubby’s dismay! :)

Oh dear! I just did something similar and let me tell you, the motivation DIED round about the 9th cabinet!! I did finish mine but it took almost SIX WEEKS! They did turn out nice though. Yours turned out beautiful, so you must have kept your motivation. :)

  12. Yes, please information on sanding and the name of the color! It is just what I’m looking for!

I love it! Just redid ours in black but I’m looking for a new color for the armoire in the living room…..

  14. Nester,

I am so glad you are doing this! I’ve been wanting to do something with my table and chairs but haven’t built up the courage yet. I cannot wait to see the final product!

  15. Stephanie says:

@ Jess and Melissa: You girls aren’t alone, I feel the same way! Nester has been such an inspiration to me and I wanted my house to look like hers! I fell in love with the black, red toile, checks and Tobacco Road! Now everything has changed, and I’m wondering if the look I fell in love with is now dated and undesirable.

Nester, I’m a huge fan, and I like the fresh new look of your room, but I miss the color, the warmth, the RED!!! It seems like the trend with many decorating blogs has moved on to the white, blues and browns “spa” look, which I like but doesn’t work with stuff I already have. So, I’m just going to keep referring back to those old pictures and hope that color makes a comeback! You have inspired me to paint my dining table now, but what color??

  16. Laurie says:

Love the color..I am about to redo a black table and chairs and would love it if you would share the color….I know I am the 100th person to ask..but didn’t think you would mind, since you share so many great ideas!!

Stephanie and anyone who still loves the red room I had–good for you! Black furniture? I like it too! I just CRAVE change. I’ve had all this stuff for years and since we are renting there’s not a whole lot I can change in my house like floors and junk.

Remember, by the time you saw my red room, I had lived with that color for 5 years! {if you saw it when I first started Nesting Place}. This fall my sofa will be 7 years old. That is a LONG time for a fabric sofa in a house with three boys. It needed to be covered. A neutral would allow me to add whatever colors I want in our room.

Who knows at Christmas I may pull off the slips and use the toile for awhile. But I doubt it because I love how quiet the white is.

I still LOVE red but, I was SO ready for a change. You need to use whatever colors make you happy! There are no rules at all. If you like the color then by all means use it!

  18. Wow. That took courage. :)
    Great job.
