See that “dwell”? I wrote it with my favorite chalk markers.
Years ago I found two of these run-of-the-mill-find-at-any-Wal-Mart-Target-Office-Depot-Chalkboards at a yard sale. I think they were less than $1 each. Within a few months, I also found two huge poster sized orange frames at Garden Ridge. Discounted of course because the glass was broken out and apparently, frames are useless without the glass.
Some people think I’m lucky but, the truth is, most things come in standard sizes. Like frames, finding a 24 x 36 inch frame is easy. They are everywhere, even target has plain ones. So, the fact that this 24 x 36 inch chalk board fit perfectly inside was not that big of a surprise. I secured it with hot glue, another big surprise. And then I painted all the frame parts white. I spent $9 on the dwell chalk board.

Hello! I’ve been pouring over your website for the past few weeks – really love it. Thank you so much for the inspiration! The other day I thought I found a post where you hung a round mirror on top of a reg., plain bathroom mirror. I really think my sister needs to do this, but now I can’t find that post anywhere! Am I delusional? Your assistance would be much appreciated! Thank you!
Yep, I just searched “bathroom” on the search bar on the sidebar of this blog

I love all your “big surprises” ;]
How nice that those two fit together! This is a reminder — if you see a good deal — get it — one day it will fit together with another good deal! ;)
Love it!
Nester,
I have been a stalker of your blog for about a year now. I love all your ideas and I really love your tassels. I own about 6 or 7 of them.
Anyway, I wanted to know if you’ve had a problem with the chalk markers? I purchased some after seeing them on your blog and fell in love with them immediately until I tried to erase my grocery shopping list. I couldn’t get them to come off completely. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!
Mine have worked fine. However, I have read that if you are using a chalkboard for the first time, with real chalk you need to “prime” the surface first by coloring the entire board with chalk and then erasing it. Otherwise, you will always see whatever the first thing you wrote.
Maybe it works the same with the markers?
perfect! I love painting frames! My husband thought I was nuts to paint a bunch of frames black for our living room because I didn’t want to go out and buy more frames, but now he loves them. :)
paint and a glue gun – who could ask for more?
Your “dwell” chalkboard is fabulous! Thanks for the ideas… Wonderful as always!
Glue guns make everything good. I need to get those chalk markers. I have been using the big ol’ fat ones that my kids play with outside. I have been using what I have; but it is getting ridiculous.
What a terrific idea!
Always such great ideas here! Thanks! Keep ‘em coming! I did a similar chalkboard project by using a lovely $10 “oil” painting from Ross. I painted and distressed the frame, then used spray chalkboard paint on the canvas. I didn’t even have to pull anything apart. Worked like a charm!
I have been looking for a chalkboard and finally found one yesterday. I LOVE IT!! Thank you for the inspiration…my home is very grateful. :)

Oh and just for the record, I looked at 3 places for the chalk markers, most had never even heard of them! :) I guess I need to order them online…thanks for letting us know about them! Can’t wait to get mine!
Am I missing where you have your paint colors? I love your home and the paint is perfect!! I’d love a list…if you have time. Thanks, glad I stumbled across your blog tonight!
I love sharing your website with all my friends. Your creativity is amazing, your words are encouraging, pics are beautiful to the eyes! Thanks, Nesting place is a breath of fresh air.
Please post the formula for the old Tobacco Road paint…tried to find it and can’t. I hear that SW bought out Dacron and can’t get TR anymore. Where have you bought it recently? Is there another color that is equal?
