I can't wait to read ALL of these. Window treatments stress me right out! I'm not good at choosing what to put up and it always costs me a fortune. Thanks for the tips!

On a budget of $40, I bought 3 panels of thermal blackout drapes at the dollar store to cover my sliding glass door but ran into problems because of the weight of the curtains. Neither of the inexpensive but thin decorator rods would hold them and even the standard heavy duty white rods were buckling. I finally had an ah ha moment and ran off to the store and straight to the plumbing supplies where I had the clerk cut a piece of copper pipe (on sale even!) to the length I needed. At home, I popped out the decorator ends from the rods I had and hot glued them into the pipe. It worked perfectly. Three windows later, my routine is: Dollar store for curtains, plumbing supplies for rod, crafts store for decorator ends - avg. cost- $30. With your suggestions on fabrics, I know I can get the cost under $20. Oh happy day!

Thank you for the inspiration. I've been trying to figure out something new that I could do with my plain old curtains that have been in the same spot for the last 3 years. I think I'm going to try taking the rod out and attaching them with a hook to the wall.
Love all your ideas!

My sister JUST gave me this same advice a few days ago!! See, I HATE MY WINDOW TREATMENTS WTIH A HOLY MAJOR PASSION!!! Can you tell I seriously hate them???? Sigh. And to make things worse, I can NOT decide which fabric I want to use for my mistreaments. My sister (what does a girl do without a sister????) said that ANYTHING is better than what I currently have up- flowery balloon valances from when we first married in 1998. Yes, I am embarrassed by them!!!

Anyway, just sharing that I LOOOOVE this idea and will definitely do it Sunday afternoon when our after church company leaves. Of course, I guess I could do it now and let our guests give me some ideas, huh? :)

Still LOVE your site!!

Nester,

I would really like to know how you made those blue plaid drapes that are hung on the rings directly on the wall - you called them rodless drapes I think. I don't want to hang mine directly on the wall because I already have a rod and rings. What I want to emulate is that droopy valancy top thing that is at the top of the panels. Did you clip the rings through two layers of fabric or what? I even saw this same look at your sister's house in a picture she posted of the (I guess) kitchen table where she writes.

I want to hang panels on either side of my french doors and I don't want anything precise and taylored looking. I can sew. My fabic is stripe and I alreay have it. Help. You are my idol. (not really, Jesus is my idol ... but I love your blog.) Claire
