layered mantletexture pillow: homegoods

For the past few weeks I’ve had some fun layered textures on the mantle. Remember, as a Cozy Minimalist, I’ve decided that for us, the mantle is a place that doesn’t get a whole lot of every day action–so I like filling it up with pretty things.

Here are a few things I’ve incorporated:

1. Pom pom garland: I found mine a few years ago at anthropologie, but you can make your own poms with forks, cardboard or pom pom makers. Emily Jones recently shared how to make the poms into a garland.

2. Tassels tied onto strings, blankets or pillows. You can get my All About Tassels Guide for free right now (just sign up for my email list for blog updates and then login here at the Nest Files for access to the guide and fun, free printables) here’s a great post from Sarah M Dorsey about making a tassel throw.

3. Finger knitted Garland, years ago Maggie introduced me to these (read all about them here), Caroline gave me this one for Christmas one year–I’ve used it on our Christmas tree and just as a garland, and I liked it so much I went and found the same yarn and made a few more.

flowers in a basket

Whenever I stop in at Trader Joe’s I’ll grab some of their cut flowers and such. To put them into my tall World Market basket, I first fill a gallon size ziplock bag with a few inches of water and then slip the whole thing into the basket.

textureized

I usually pull out these sweet little textured pieces and sprinkle them around the house starting in the fall and they stick around until spring. They are a fun and inexpensive way to add some texture to your home.
