Cleaning Day

Something else is wrong with me.

Um, I kind of like to clean my house.  I kind of almost look forward to it.

That Mrs. Meyer has brainwashed me or something.

Get it “brainwashed”, she makes cleaning products?  Funny, right?  I’m reading the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Home book right now and it’s fun to read about her family and how the company started.  Her daughter, Monica…well, I’ll let them tell you…

And if you are a Caldrea fan, that daughter, Monica has two daughters, Aundrea and Calla.  Yep, the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean day is the more budget friendly version of Monica’s first creation, Caldrea.  I love reading about how companies started, and Mrs. Meyer’s is no exception.

With guests coming for the holidays and ebook writing and mistreatment creating and husband and three boys and a dog constantly running in and out, my house is in disarray more than I’d like to admit.

And I’d much rather be writing a blog post or tweeting about important things like cheese than cleaning.  Until I started using Mrs. Meyer’s stuff. I mentioned my devotion to her products in October.  And the dust particles aligned and now Mrs. Meyer’s is a sponsor of Nesting Place this month {thanks Mrs. M. for sponsoring this post, you make it easy to write about}.

The magic is in the smell.  I can’t put it into words.  According to Thema Meyer, it “Smells like a garden. Cleans like the dickens”.  It’s addicting, that fresh clean smell.  Once you try it, you probably won’t be able to turn back to those hospital smelling cleaners. I’m sorry, but it’s true.

Three things every kitchen must have: a dutch oven, a laptop, and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day counter top spray.  Can I get an Amen?

This Christmas season is turning out to be weird.  Most of my Christmas decor annoys me and I like to clean.  What is HAPPENING to me?  So, today, I’m stripping the white slipcover off my sofa and using my lavender detergent and fabric softener {also a scoop of Oxy Clean} and in a few hours my sofa will be as good as new and smell fresh and lovely.

Until they come back.  But I still love having white slips.

And my collection has grown. Isn’t it beautiful?   Every so often they have amazing limited edition smells that sell out super fast. I’ll let you know next time I see one {after I purchase mine}. They’ve had rhubarb, snickerdoodle, orange clove, gingerbread, peppermint, apple, honeysuckle and Iowa Pine to name a few.  And there are some people that get these limited editions and then sell them on ebay and make a killing.  Not that I checked or anything. Not that I’m considering purchasing a pepperment product on ebay.

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day is now available in many Walmart stores {look in the laundry section}.  They have the best selection I’ve seen in person and you can even twist off the top and take a wiph.  wiff. whiph?  I can NEVER spell that word.  You can even check online to see if your local store carries what you are looking for and if it’s in stock.  My local Walmart had some $2 off coupons hanging around the necks of the laundry soap.  But, just in case, you might want to print up some of these $1 off coupons. HERE is the coupon right under these words:: click on it…

If your local Walmart doesn’t carry Mrs. Meyer’s Clean day, no worries, there is free shipping on orders over $50 at Mrs. Meyers.com through December 16th at noon.  Happy cleaning and may your house be squeaky clean not stinky clean.

I love my Mrs. Meyers! I hoard my limited edition scents! Love, love, love the honeysuckle! And my sweet husband bought me gallons of the Lemon Verbena laundry detergent when they had free shipping at Drugstore.com!

  2. I wish I loved to clean as much as you do :) Maybe if I had lots of Mrs. Meyers I would ;)

  3. Susie Davis says:

Your collection is absolutely beautiful. (And a little scary …) I am completely and totally addicted to Caldrea. The Ginger Pomelo is wicked addictive. As is the Sea Salt Neroli. And the Lavender Pine. And the Cloverleaf … oh dear.

  4. Jenny says:

Ok. I’ll have to try her stuff out.

  5. Amy says:

THANK YOU! ! I absolutely love having a clean house, HATE to clean, but the peace and calm I feel after cleaning is worth the effort.
The problem is that I have hated the smell of PineSol and other cleansers. My kids tend to walk in the house after school and shout to each other…”What’s that smell?” “That’s the power of pinesol, baby!”. (from the commercial)
I don’t want my home to smell like a chemical factory, so I’m off to find Mrs. Meyers, thanks to you! !

    • nester says:

Pine sol reminds me of my childhood. Whenever someone barfed at school, they would use it to clean it up. Poor Pine Sol, it’s now associated with vomit for me.

  6. i am IN LOVE with the basil scented dish soap & hand soap. seriously it will make you want to wash your hands. i’m a fan, fo sho.

  7. Janell Beals says:

That good huh? I’ll have to give it a try, not loving cleaning these days! Janell

  8. cindy says:

I use it too, I LOVE this stuff…. it’s worth every penny. The dish soap lasts a long time and is really sudsy, and all of it smells heavenly. It makes cleaning a pleasure., well sort of , except for the doggie barf…
I look forward to the wonderful natural scents, and the colors they use on the bottles look completely pretty anywhere you put them!

  9. Rebekah says:

Boo. My rinky-dink Walmart doesn’t have Mrs. Meyer’s. I’ve mostly sworn off store-bought cleaners, in favor of homemade vinegar, baking soda, and lavender oil concoctions but I’d love to have a bottle of something that smells pretty to use on the kitchen and bathroom counters when company is coming over. I’ll just have to keep an eye out for Mrs. M’s when I’m out and about elsewhere.

  10. Jennifer M says:

Reeeeeeally hoping to score some of these limited edition scents before the season’s out. Or they sell out. And I really want to try a candle! But the counter top spray has to be my next purchase. With these coupons, I might could treat myself twice a month instead of once! Thanks! I suppose if you have to have an addiction, a clean one is acceptable??? Hoping…

  11. I was so disappointed to find out that my crazy WM doesn’ t carry this line! I wanted to experience it for myself after all this high praise. But now you’ve made me happy again to know that I can order online! Yippee!

  12. I tried Mrs. Meyer’s countertop spray on your advice, and I am hooked. How do they manage to make a cleaning product that smells so good when others fail so miserably? Like you, I almost can’t wait for opportunities to use it. Also, the scent seems to linger longer than ordinary cleaners. I’ve decided to gradually replace all my cleaners with Mrs. Meyers.

  13. okay, so i am almost out of the old hospital stuff so i will buy this next time you have me convinced….

p.s. it is so refreshing to see someone elses house looks like mine :)

    have a great weekend.

  14. I’d love to give it a whirl, but alas, I can not receive liquids in the mail. I hope she continues to be succesful- I’ll try in 2012! :)

  15. Catherine says:

I have never used this product, but am super tempted to hurry over to Walmart and check it out. I need a bigger cleaning budget, methinks. ;) Thanks for sharing! I saw someone else mentioned Basil and that has me super intrigued.

  16. Shauna says:

I found my Mrs. Meyers at Target… so for those of you who can’t find it at your WM – check there! I am absolutely in LOVE with Basil. The bottle ‘aint to shabby either! :)

  17. Sarah Lynne says:

    Whiff :)

  18. I have heard so much about these products. I really need to get on the ball and try some. And your messy house picture looks like my living room right about now. :)

  19. Design Love says:

Going to walmart today to see…..you make me laugh! Is whiff even a word? ?? Anyways, I like good smelly, chemical free cleaners!
    Happy cleaning day!!

Nestor – you are my hero…you have given me confidence and positive energy to clean my house this weekend! Which scent to you like the most of Mrs. Meyers cleaning products: basil, lavender, lemon verbena, geramium, etc. I don’t want to be one of those peope that unscrew the top and start smelling all of them while people are passing me in the aisle..

    • nester says:

Oh honey, they don’t care, smell away, everyone’s nose is different. Each time I crack open a new smell, I declare it my favorite, you can’t go wrong.

      • Jennifer S. says:

I totally think they smell different when sprayed rather than when you take a whiff in the bottle. After the Nester first posted about Mrs. Meyer’s I thought I would give the basil a try (since that is what it looked like her bottle was). When I opened it in the store to give it a whiff I was like “Good grief, this is awful, I’m going to stick to the lemon verbina!” but I went ahead and got the basil counter top spray anyway and I am soooo… glad I did! IT SMELLS WONDERFUL! Honestly, when sprayed on your counters it is like the smell is dispersed and lightened just enough that it isn’t that over powering smell that you get from whiffing the bottle. The basil is now my VERY FAVORITE! Just to think what I almost missed out on. I’ve tried several scents and haven’t found one yet that I don’t like when used. They are all truely yummy!!!!!!!! =)

        • nester says:

very true. and I thought I would Hate Gerainum because I think those plants stink, but now it’s my Christmas season scent for the kitchen, since I didn’t get Iowa Pine in time.

          • Julie says:

Thank you to you both – You’re right – I didn’t seem like I can go wrong. I might just buy one of each and give it a try – will let you know.

  21. Inez says:

Thank you for this! This is 100% exactly the kind of motivation I needed. I didn’t think there was anyone in this world that actually LIKED cleaning, but you make it seem like maybe it’s not such a bad thing after all. :)

  22. Dana says:

I clean my bathroom with Caldrea, especially before company comes. I’m glad to know I don’t have to feel as though I’m cheating the Meyer’s family if I do.

  23. Katie says:

O girl! I ordered my first Mrs. Meyers online through Wally World since reading all your raving about it, well it came yesterday and I could not stop spraying and wipeing! I told my husband I could wear this stuff! Love it! I am now telling everyone here at work about it and I think they think I’m a complete nut! BUT I am totally writing about it on my blog! My blogland buddies won’t be so judgemental of this sort of thing :)
Anywhoo GREAT product! Won’t be going back to the “other cleaners”
    Thanks again!

  24. Sue says:

Nester, which Mrs. Meyers product do you use on your wood kitchen table? I am desperate to find something both safe yet effective for my new table!

    • nester says:

That’s just the countertop spray, my table is painted but, I use that spray on all my painted furniture tops {coffee table, dresser, desktops} and my formica parson’s table~ so far, it’s been fine

      • Tristin says:

I, too, use the countertop spray on painted and polyurethaned surfaces with no probs at all to the finish. I often use it in lieu of dusting spray–so that I’m actually cleaning rather than just scenting my dust. ; )

  25. Audrey says:

Can I just tell you how much I love that you post pictures of your house right after a boy-nado has hit? You have a beautiful home, but I like seeing it in it’s less than perfect state also. It makes me feel better about my own. =)

Also, I really want to try Mrs. Meyers now. I’m really hoping they still have a snickerdoodle scent in the stores.

  26. Elizabeth says:

Isn’t it refreshing to know there are organic products out there are fabulous and smell great?! We are addicted to this stuff and anything Caldrea! :)

  27. shaka says:

Oh i’m so jealous of your collection! i’m going to blog that picture and link you back! i have a lot of mrs. meyers my fav is basil scent i never find the limited edition scents you listed though i’m gonna stalk their site from now on.

  28. meredith says:

    What Limited Edition scents??
I LOVE my dish soaps and hand soaps, but my Fresh Market only carries the basics. Maybe Target?
    The hunt is ON!

And your laundry room has inspired me!

  29. Tracey says:

I have the world’s strongest nose–I smell everything. Alan says I am part blood hound.
I may or may not have spent a few minutes at Target sniffing Mrs. Meyers after your first post about her products. And then the kids wanted to smell them too so we pretty much took over the entire section while we decided on our favorites. :)

  30. DeAnna says:

For someone who strives to create a home as beautiful as yours on no budget, no time and a ton of kids, this post means so much… I’m not talking about the cleaning products but that picture of your living room. It’s great to know you are really real and have a ‘real’ home! Makes me feel better about the mess I create making a new decoration or recovering something. Also, to have other things mixed in like shoes or an ironing board means that maybe (every so ofter) my house could look as good as yours does and then sometimes, yours can look like mine! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  31. Deanna says:

I love Mrs Meyers! My favorite right now is the basil – I had no idea about the seasonal scents- yum! I usually get it at target, but cost plus carries a lot of it too. I love that it’s so concentrated too – you don’t need nearly as much of it as you do some soaps…

  32. omg! So glad I stopped today to read this post. I’ve been wanting some Mrs. Myers. I smelled some in Williams Sonoma – the lemon! OMG! Divine! And I didn’t buy it that day and meant to and now I haven’t gotten back to WS and it’s like 45 minutes from my house. I had NO idea it was at Walmart!!! thanks for linking to the store because I just found it’s in the Walmart RIGHT next to me! I am SO going! Lemony clean house.. here I come!

  33. Kristen says:

I just recently discovered Mrs. Meyers – LOVE IT!! I have tried the basil, lemon verbena, and gardenia. Basil and Gardenia my favorites so far. Your collection is IMPRESSIVE! My family loves it too! My 4 year old cleaned my hall bath with Basil last night. Used half a bottle – but hey I’m not complaining!!! :)

  34. Kristen says:

Whoops – not Gardenia but GERANIUM! haha

  35. natasha says:

AMEN!!! I love Mrs. Meyers…for multiple reasons #1 the smell…it just makes me happy, #2 for making me WANT to clean (I am no where near a ‘good housekeeper’ LOL), #3 her facebook page is how I found Nester!!!

  36. I have not tried these yet but I did see them at Kroger after you last post on liking these cleaners. Hmmm….may have to take a whiff!!

  37. i admit i use vinegar to clean EVERYTHING in my home and i mean EVERYTHING.. but this post makes me want to open my wallet and splurge on some Mrs. Meyers. :)

  38. Tristin says:

I’ve been using Mrs. Meyers for 4 years now and I LOVE the products. My fav is to mix the lavender all purpose cleaner with water in a spray bottle to make counter top spray. It makes me so much more motivated to clean–even after a few years of using the products. And I love the look of the packaging.

BTW, I recognized the Staub cookware on the stove–I have the same dutch oven. Isn’t it the greatest?

  39. Lolo says:

What a cool family story! Love that :)
I have been addicted as well for the past 3 years. Everytime I spray that first spray of Geranium – it is bliss. It truly makes me happy :D

When I read a month or so back that they were gonna carry the line at Walmart i RAN to the store. Lucky me……or not. Our Walmart doesnt carry it! WTH?! Doesnt anyone around here know how awesome it is? Oh well, I resort to online shopping and the occasional score of a bottle at TJ Maxx…..

BTW – your display is gorgeous and envy-worthy :)

  40. That IS an impressive collection you have going there! I am right there with you on the house in disarray thing. My oldest is having her Cinderella bday party tomorrow morning, so we have that along with all the Christmas stuff. My house is trashed. Maybe some Mrs. Meyers will make me feel better b/c I do love a good cleaner.

  41. I was reading your post on my phone while I was on my bike. A stationary one, no worries. And I thought you wrote ‘cleans as the chickens’. Why are phones so small? So you forced me off my bike and to the computer. Oh yes, clean as the dickens. Makes much more sense. I think I saw some pine scented Mrs Meyers at Marshalls. I’m going back for it. I try to stay away from Walmart and all that chaos. I have never had a relaxing shopping trip in that store.

  42. stephanie says:

I’ve been a Mrs.Meyers devotee for several years now – there’s nothing like it! And I’m enjoying some Caldrea hand cream right now, too! :)

  43. jan says:

I saw some Mrs Meyers in the store and looked at the label, I was appalled at the list of ingredients. If you want something that is really natural and good for the environment, buy Aubrey’s Organics or Bi-O-Kleen. Their smells are just great and much more natural. I use the Bi-O-Kleen spray for my kitchen and bathroom. PS. I spent two years reading every book I could get my hands on about ingredients in cosmetics and cleaning products. I am not talking out of my hat, as they used to say.

  44. I know blog sponsors are important, but please don’t let your blog become too commercial.

  45. Trista says:

Between you and YoungHouseLove singing the praises of Mrs Meyer’s, I knew I had to try it. I bought the basil hand soap first, and my husband kept telling me how great it smelled. So last week I bought the counter spray. At first glance he said, “That’s natural stuff, it won’t work.”

Well it did work and he told me 3 or 4 times that night how great the kitchen smelled.

  46. Denise says:

Do you happen to have the link or know where I can find the $1 off coupon?

  47. Mrs. Jen B says:

You know, I saw some of the products at Walmart last week while running around for last-minute Thanksgiving stuff and thought “hmmm…that’s new”. Last minute does not equal time to sniff various cleaners, but when I go back (probably tomorrow) I’ll have to give ‘em a wiff! (that’s how I spell it) :-)

  48. Holy Ms. Meyers collection! I don’t even have one bottle, and you’ve got a row of color coded goodness. Well now. I might need to re-think this whole situation.

  49. I wish I could get them! Our PX just started carrying Method products. It will take forever for them to carry Mrs. Meyers. Sadness.

  50. yep! a big and hearty AMEN!!! to this post:) I love Mrs. Meyer’s!!! for sure the laundry soap! there is nothing like folding clean, GOOD smelling laundry!!!!!
