There’s A Baby on My Desktop…and other important things {Updated}

Have you discovered the CSI project yet?  Three talented bloggers thought it would be a fun idea to create a challenge every week and then have people link up with their entry and then, a guest judge picks their favorite and top 10, and the top winner gets a prize.  This week the category is Roadkill Rescue–a project created for your home with something you got for free.  You can read all the rules here.  And, The Nester is the guest judge.  After looking through half the entries, I’ve already subscribed to about 10 more blogs.  The contest is open until Thursday, so you can still enter.

I really love my computer.  We are a mac family and I love how easy everything is to figure out.  But.  We have this…thing that pops up when you take your um..thing? {cursor? mouse? arrow?} down into the bottom corner.  I never use it, I never pay attention to it.  But every now and then I accidentally add something to that page? {I’m sure there are fancy terms to everything I’m trying to explain, this is why I don’t write about dumputers}. One day, I was reading something online and accidentally added that picture of that baby to that mystery page.  So now, every time I mistakenly go too close to the corner, this sweet child pops up and I have no idea who’s baby it is.  It’s been there a long time.  Maybe  a year.  If it’s your baby, it’s precious.  I look at it every day.

In other news, we need to announce some winners.

First of all, the TJ Maxx $25 gift card winners. {insert dramatic yet not annoying drumroll}

How funny is Su’s comment?  “Gotta happen someday”  and it did.  Oh and Kate, I’ve actually met Kate she’s amazing. I promise I didn’t rig the contest. I mean, give me some credit, if I rigged it, I would have made up a fake name, entered it and picked myself 4 times.  If you won, email me: nestergirl {at} gmail {dot} com with your address so I can come visit.  I kid.  So you can get your card.

Also, did you see where I announced the winners of the Reluctant Entertainer books? A few of the winners still haven’t contacted me.

Next stop the HGTV  twitter party was extremely fun.  I mean, I did pit out my shirt 15 minutes in because of my profuse sweating but I think I’ll continue to watch Design Star and tweet at the same time.  It’s kind of like watching it with 369 of your closest friends who are all funny and think like you.  HGTV is giving a prize pack away to one of the tweeters and I said I’d pick my favorite tweet.

Unfortunately many of my favorite tweets cam from my sister, probably because we have the same issues,  I mean humor.

I can’t let her win because she is kin.

Luckily many others of you made me laugh out loud.  Here’s the winner :: Amanda//@SerenityNowGirl

And just for fun…

It’s not too late to enter to win a book or canvas from Jeanne Winters and DaySpring!

I am still laughing about the baby… LOL!!! A year? Really??!!

Even though I am bummed about not winning the giveaway, I will still be heading to TJ Maxx this evening. It just wont be free :) Im looking for a baby gift and I always go there to buy a basket (its alot prettier than a gift bag!).

ps – your sis is hilarious. I have some choice words for this year’s season as well. Im just waiting for Vern’s vein to finally pop out of his neck….

  2. Janell Beals says:

Yes, what is that strange occurrence with the computer, sometimes random rooms I view get captured and pop up when I’m intending to do something else…technology? Sweet baby. Enjoyed the twitter party but need to go back and watch the show again, I missed half of it while reading and tweeting…then again, I think I saw enough. Fun. Janell

  3. I love the dashboard (that’s the name of the screen that pops up) on my mac! I don’t know what I’d do without it…..not really. You really put a cute touch on it.

  4. Tessa says:

That baby – seriously the hardest I’ve laughed today, and my children are pretty hysterical. I love the way you write! Thanks for the good laugh! :)

  5. Jen says:

    Hehe – you’re funny :-) Love the baby – it’s adorable!

Yup, the thing that pops up is called the Dashboard. You can find it in your applications folder. To get rid of the different windows (actually called widgets, but they’re basically like mini-applications), you click on the plus sign on the bottom left when Dashboard is open, then you should be able to get rid of whatever you want by clicking the X’s on the corner of the widgets. And if you want to turn off the random stuff popping up when you bring your curser to your corners do this: System Preferences > Expose/Spaces > then you can click away and change or disable any windows from popping up when you bring your cursor there :-)

  6. Samantha says:

You must have accidentally added a widget. I didn’t make it up–that’s what they’re really called. Those clever Mac people! Anyway, there should be something in the lower left corner, and if you click it, a little “x” should appear next to each item. Clicking the “x”s makes the items disappear.

You can also change your “hot corners” (the things that pop up or change when you point your cursor in the corners) by going to the display section of the system settings.

Once you get the hang of it it’s a piece of cake. Glad to hear you’re a Mac girl!

  7. Hysterical about the baby ! So sorry to have missed the ‘Twitter’ party because I would have enjoyed DS so much more if I had been tweeting away with all you fun folks ~ we west coasters are just living vicariously through you east coasters. I died when that gal didn’t put the mattress on the bed to create the ‘illusion’ of height, are you kidding me ?

So excited about the TJ Maxx card, that will be spent pretty darn quick ! Thanks for the compliments, and picking me (randomly).
    Hugs
    Kate

  8. I cannot believe I won. . .now I need you to make me promise to use the gift card on something pretty for me instead of buying jeans or shoes for my kids.

Thanks for all your fun giveaways!

    Su

  9. I hear the greatest things about Mac computers, but I am SO scared of them! That baby is PRECIOUS!

The DesignStar Twitter Party was something else. It was my first Twitter party & I realized shortly after, that my fingers needs to be stretched prior. They were EXHAUSTED!!

  10. Whaddya know? Vern DOES have a personality–love his sandwich makeover! :) It was better than the two makeovers on Sunday.

Thank you so much for the linky love–in my world, such a huge honor! :) I really had fun Tweeting with you guys…I have to agree, it was nerve wracking at first. I think maybe I have TV ADD b/c I had trouble focusing, but it was fun once I got into it. And apparently Michael likes my sense of humor, b/c he responded to my Tweet that I find his snarkiness “endearing.” ;)

  11. Alison says:

Ok, I think its HILLARIOUS that you’ve been looking at an adorable stranger-baby for a year. And that little video was awesome! The beige cabinets, walls, countertop, their clothes…too funny! (well, its a bit of tone on tone)

  12. Well at least it isn’t my face popping up every time I log on, right? Hopefully THAT issue has been resolved. :-) xo

    • nester says:

no I still have that too.

Oh and one time I had a photo of June http://byebyepie.typepad.com/bye_bye_pie/ just on my desktop, we had lunch together and I wrote post about it and used her photo. My husband had made a special video for his parents 40th? anniversary from our computer and when he went to start it, the very first thing that came up on the 10 foot screen in front of a crowd of people was June’s face, blown up 9 feet high.

      It. Was. Hilarious.

Everyone asked who that was because they didn’t recognize her.

  13. Others have already mentioned it’s the Dashboard and you can find it on your Dock and add or get rid of things. I had seen the dashboard and used it only for the calculator before, but I never knew you could do stuff with it! Did you know that you can download all kinds of widgets to customize that space? Like and aquarium with sound effects and free coloring page of the day and build your snowman. My dashboard just underwent a complete update, all thanks to The Nester :-)

  14. The Twitter party was a blast–much more fun than the show itself. Like Janell said, I missed half of the show because I was so busy trying to keep up with all the tweets!

Amanda definitely deserved to win the Prize Package. She was cracking me up that night. Love her sense of humor. :-)

  15. Okay, so in my excessive excitement over seeing my name on your blog, I didn’t even see that I won a prize. For being snarky. This is fabulous!

  16. I didn’t get to watch Design Star until it repeated at midnight, so I missed the Twitter party. So bummed. It would have made the show immensely more watchable!

I don’t think any of them deserve their own show! Maybe they’ll do an individual challenge soon and we can see the designers going all out on their own?

That red room was painfully bad!

  17. HA! I didn’t see Julia’s tweet — that cracked me UP!!!! And what in the world is that video? It was hilarious — and it was nice to see Vern smiling again, instead of Mr. Mean Face.

  18. Bonita says:

I’m laughing about the baby. Maybe God is trying to tell you to have another child! ha ha

    • nester says:

it’s so easy to be critical when we are on the outside looking in, I agree that the rooms aren’t up to par for a finished design but remember all those paramaters that HGTV puts on them–time, money, working with each other, crazy weird challenges that are IMPOSSIBLE::they are there for a reason since they are giving some one their VERY own show.

Maybe HGTV is trying to find out more about a designer than who can pick out a good paint color.

My guess is that we will all watch it again next week, at least I will

  20. You crack me up – ROFL

Oh man, just imagining the big June on screen…

  21. LAura James says:

I love the design star tweets, but I have to say I am disappointed this year with the challenges on the show. I wish they would give them a chance to be a designer and not just apart of a team every week. It gets old and they are not able to showcase their own talents…

  22. Brandy says:

I can’t stop laughing about the baby!!! We’re a Mac family too and I had the same problem, my hubby patiently (and repeatedly..) explained to me that page is called the dashboard. But we changed to a magic mouse and now I can’t find the dashboard anymore. Thanks for making me laugh (and letting me know I’m not alone) :-)

  23. sara says:

just saw one of your tweets from last week that talked about a perfect color!! sherwin williams comfort gray! my hubby picked it almost 2 years ago and i am so in love everyday with my bedroom! any thoughts on a coordinating color for this room??? :)

  24. Lisa says:

How funny about the baby! Glad to see that I am not the only one that has a picture stuck on their dashboard and not sure how to get it off! Although, I at least know the pretty little girl on my dashboard! He! He!

  25. Michelle says:

You crack me up girl! There’s some random baby picture on your desktop….well it could be worse. It is an adorable baby, would make me smile whenever it accidentally popped up:-)

  26. you are totally cracking me up. poor baby. the twitter party was hysterical and i, too, laughed out loud when i read Amanda’s tweet about tom! she’s a crack up!

  27. Renee says:

Nester I don’t know if I have ever commented on your blog other then to enter for a give away. Today though I have to because I totally thought you were going to announce a pregnancy with the help of that sweet baby photo.

  28. That is hilarious about the baby! I’m dying!!
