Adopt an Accessory

all this cute loot is or will be available on ebay

Are you ever out shopping and find all sorts of lovely items that you don’t really need but you really love and they are a great price and it makes you sad that no one wanted this darling thing because it is at a thrift shop or a yard sale or at a retail shop and you know it would look great inside your home but you don’t “need” it but for some reason you still want it?

Yeah, me too.  I’ve confessed that I buy with my heart. And if you are like me and have a great stash of wonderful things to shop the house from, you probably don’t need to read any further.

However, if you are one of those people who leaves comments lamenting your lack of things to shop your house from…

I thought I’d experiment with something.   My mom and I love to hang out together and go thrifting/yard saling, and shopping in general.  I’ve also got a dresser full of tchotchkes.  We listed a few things on ebay last week and lots of beautiful items found new homes and it was fun and we didn’t lose money.  So, we are doing it again.  And we’ll keep doing it until you loose too much interest or until we loose too much money.  Whichever comes first.

I simply don’t have time to list things on ebay and ship stuff out, but my mom does, and for some crazy reason she actually likes that part.  So, she’s listing everything under her ebay name Wide White Shutters.  So even though she only has one sale, trust me, if she runs off with your ceramic bunny never to return again, I feel confident I can hunt her down. She really enjoys her grandchildren, I can’t imagine her moving to Mexico even though this stuff is really beautiful.

Because we like action and suspense, our plan is to start everything at 99 cents with no reserve.  Living on the edge.

I’ll try to remember to announce it here when new stuff is listed but, you’ll also be able to click on this shopping cart that is up on the right hand corner of Nesting Place to get a link to whatever is listed on ebay.  Our hope is to list stuff every few days.

***

I spend lots of time here at Nesting Place, I hope to bring in income based on the work I do–just like other normal humans, want to find out more? Read my disclosure statement.

    Hello!
Personal shopping is my game for how to finance everything I enjoy buying for our home. I search sales, tag sales, and go yard sailing with a good friend and when we ebay or find a sought after (sent for) item for a client, the profits from the find pay for our own wants (I’d love to say needs, but that would be stretching it!) I’ve learned to find unusual and vintage items for hard to find sizes and things, so generally its easy found money! it’s a win win for my clients and for me! They get an item they wanted for sometimes as much as 85% less than they wanted, and I charge 25% more than I paid for it…its a friendly, fun way to get my shopping fix! :)

Some of the personal requests have been a vintage Chanel Suit in a specific size, a pottery barn slip cover, a color of no longer made tupperware…and the list goes on and on after 7 years!

  2. Sounds like a great plan to finance your love to shopping!

  3. Gotta love moms that use ebay! :)

  4. I don’t even think my mom knows what eBay is. ;) I’m impressed!

I clicked over to read your Disclaimer, and I thought it was great. I LOVE writing, I love the community and support I’ve discovered through blogging, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have a little bit of income for my efforts. :) I never mind a blog with sponsors, so long as the blogger doesn’t let the blog get taken over by posts about sponsors and giveaways. I think you do a great job of remembering your audience and the reason we came here in the first place…to read your funny, witty posts about making Home a Beautiful Place. :)

  5. Ack! What are you doing to me? I love that bunny and package of eggs; your centerpiece thingy in the back, too. I haven’t been on ebay in a couple of years and, shoot, hope I can figure out my password!

  7. Good for you all! How fun to do a project like this together. My Mother and I had an antique store for a while and it was a blast….but more things ended up in our house than in the shop!

  8. Ha! That is so funny b/c just this week {I finally opened it last night, matter of fact!} I opened a little store for that VERY same reason! I’m like you in my treasure hunting, and I do feel it is a gift. If I had a dollar for every time someone said to me that they wished they could find all the good stuff & see the potential in things {like me, they say} then I’d be rich. But since that’s not happening, I started collecting all of those good deals, treasures, and things with hidden potential {and re-doing them} and offering them to my readers, and whoever happens to come across me. My shop is a blog, and I link it to my main blog. It’s called “Dreamy Designs”.

Because I *hate* Ebay from the bottom of my ♥.

    :)

Having just read your ‘disclosure’ post, the only thing that stuns me is that anyone would suggest you shouldn’t make money online. You’re extremely good at what you do (else, we wouldn’t all be here every day) and you absolutely deserve monetary recognition for that. Frankly, you deserve your own HGTV show, but that’s another topic!

  10. You are one of the few peeps that can pull off a run-on sentence so swimmingly!

I tend to have the buy-with-the-heart-itis most when I am shopping at Ross. Good idea to ebay the stuff you don’t want/need anymore!

What a wonderful partnership! Bless your mom!!!! I agree that you should have your own HGTV show…. except that I don’t have satellite or cable, so I would never get to watch it. I just did a little ebay adventure with some Snapware containers from Costco I *had*to*have*! The box came with 18 assorted sizes… I listed the little ones and kept the big ones… and they sold! I made money, and then did it again with another box. I came out ahead and had the containers I wanted… until I went into Costco and they had sets of 3 huge cereal containers… I had to buy two sets… so there went my profits. But I now have a very happy pantry that makes me smile!!! {maybe I should have blogged about this…} Blessings!

  12. Been reading your blog for quite some time and love it !! Just noticed today that Mojo is a sponsor….are you in the Detroit area….because I am :)

  13. Michelle says:

I love that you just used tchotchkes in your post. That makes me smile! :)

I’ve always wanted to start an ebay business! Last summer, I told myself this summer would be the year. I’ll have to check out your mom’s shop!

i am really enjoying your blog. You have so much going on here that is of interest. I hope it’s ok that I took one of your buttons. My blog is brand new and I am starting again.
Come take a peek if you have time.
    Thanks !

Your things on eBay are lovely! I think this is going to be a fantastic source of revenue for you! I have done a lot of selling on eBay, and I wanted to tell you that to maximize your sales, you should shoot for an evening ending time when more people are at home to bid. I usually aim for around 7:00 eBay time (west coast). Sunday night is the best day of the week to end a listing also. I usually pay the .10 cents to schedule my listing so that it will end on a Sunday night. I hope this helps! :o) You can see my feedback & listings at http://shop.ebay.com/freshnewday/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1
I am also a Dave Ramsey follower. To encourage me in my pitiful sales, I put all profit on my debt, so that my dollars can go further by saving interest. Muscular dollars, we can call them. :o) I took FPU three years ago, and with God’s blessing we have so far paid off $45,000. We have $39,000 to go on the mortgage…
Love all you do! You are blessing the world!!!
