Do you know Lysa Terkeurst? President of Proverbs 31 ministries? Author of books? Talented speaker of um, talks and such? She’s basically a pretty famous person.

Lysa, Emily, Nester, Kristen

Because I have good connections {my sister had an article published in Lysa’s magazine and my dad, a local DJ celebrity} who both knew Lysa, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her, having lunch a few times and for some reason, she saw fit to ask me and Emily to speak at her conference, She Speaks. So, we’ve become friends, and I’ve even become friends with her friends.

Lysa and Boo Mama on the stage at She Speaks–why Boo is making a face at me I do not know, but I adore her anyway.

This was all much to the delight of my dear, sweet mother in law. You know, hanging with Lysa and the Proverbs 31 girls.

Y’all, I have a really exceptional mother in law. She could teach mother in law classes. She would give you the shirt off your back, and wash and iron it first–and tailor it to your size if need be. She is a saint. A saint that is a fan of Lysa. So it pleased me to no end to tell her that Lysa would be coming to my swap meet and that she could meet the voice that she’s heard on the radio and the name behind all those books. I was glad to finally get to do something kind of exciting for her, you know, besides birthing three grandsons and all.

The In Laws with the grandbabies

So the day of the swap meet came after a busy two weeks of vacations and my nervous wreck I-have-lost-my-mind, speaking at the conference and getting tassels ready for (in)courage, my brain was fried.

My mother in law had also had a long week of caring for her parents after her father had surgery and she and I hadn’t talked much about the swap in a few weeks. So, I was glad when she and my sister in law were one of the first to arrive and I introduced them to the people who were already there and then the door bell started ringing and hours passed in a swirl of chatting and meeting and sweating and those salty bugles dipped in chocolate and laughing and swaping and then everyone was gone.

The next day I was talking to my mother in law on the phone. And it occurred to me to ask her, “Sandy, {that’s her name} you DID get to meet Lysa, right?”

And her response, “Oh, she was there? Which one was she?”.

I wanted to cry. Right then and there I realized that I had completely forgotten to introduce my dear, sweet, give you the shirt off her back mother in law to Lysa Terkeurst. When they were both in my very own living room. And then I went through my photos and found this…

That’s Lysa on the left, and Sandy, my mother in law on the right. Maybe in a few years I’ll be able to laugh about it.

Sandy took the news fine and simply stated that since Lysa lives around here she’s sure she’ll have another chance to meet her and that I don’t need to feel bad because there were so many people there and other nice excuses that she graciously made for me.

Well, Sandy, you’ve got another chance to meet Lysa next weekend. Apparently, Lysa and her team of uber talented commuication professionals have yet to come to their senses and have seen fit to ask the traveling side show that is me and my sister to speak again at a conference in Charlotte.

If you are within driving distance {or if you are filthy rich and like to buy expensive plane tickets last minute} I think you would enjoy the weekend and I’d love to meet you. I’ll even try to introduce to you Lysa but I’m not making any promises.

The conference is called the MORE conference and it’s centered around Lysa’s new, not yet released book, Becoming More than just a Good Bible Study Girl. Lysa will enchant us with approachable, fun yet easily applicable truth and a few of us will fill in the gaps with some light hearted breakout type sessions. Our session is called It Doesn’t Have to be Perfect to be Beautiful and we get to talk about house stuff! Me and my sister get to do it together! Online, most people don’t realize how amazing Emily’s house is. She could totally have a house blog. Lucky for me she doesn’t care to.

Oh and one more thing. $25. That’s the cost. Not bad, huh? Find out more at the Southbrook Women’s Conference site.

And if you have yet to meet Lysa, let me tell you, she is worth the drive.

And hey, you can even meet me and my sister and maybe even my dear, sweet mother in law if she’s able to make it. Just don’t ask her for a shirt.
