I am all about pillows. I promise, you can’t have too many. Who doesn’t love a fluffy pillow filling the corners of sofas, chairs, beds, and benches? Once I buy a pillow, I will never let it go. But, sometimes, I get tired of the pattern or the color or sometimes my boys spill grape juice on one or maybe the dog got a hold of one for a minute. Then, there’s the time I just had a temporary period of insanity when I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a pillow containing a picture of a dog dressed like George Washington. So, what’s a girl to do? Here’s a little trick I came up with. As long as your pillows have fringe on the edges, you can do it too!

Go find some scrap fabric that you love, and cut it {or rip it} to the size of your pillow. A few years ago, when I was redoing our master bedroom, I found lots of pillow scraps for $1. Most of them were remnants from fancy, expensive fabric that the store sold up in the front, where the rich people shop. I always shopped in the back of the store with the trolls and Quasimodo and the Elephant Woman. We all get along really great. You’d be surprised at Quasimodo’s sense of style.

Anyway, most of the scraps were too small to make front and back for 2 pillows. And, there was no way I was going to spend $40 a yard for more matching fabric. But, I have this thing about pairs. I must have them. So, I would do the front of two pillows in one fabric and the back of them in another fabric. Well, this started because of how cheap I am–it is continuing because it has actually worked out great. Now, it’s like I get 2 pillows in one! All I have to do is turn the pillow over and ta-da, another pillow!

So, if you have an old sorry pillow that has some full brush fringe on the edges go get it now! Also, I’m sure you have figured out that I am not above buying these from Goodwill and yard sales. Even Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx have these on major clearance from time to time.

Go dig out your old fashioned needle and thread. Or, if you are super lazy, you could use your glue gun. FYI, even I opted for the needle and thread on this one. Get your two fabrics that you are in love with , one for each side and make sure they are exactly {in my language exact is never exact but, you get the idea} the same size as the fabric that is showing on the old, rejected pillow. Line your fabric up on one side and start stitching away. I guess if you are really talented you could sew both sides at once. I did one at a time. Make sure you sew the fabric as close to the edge and the fringe as possible. Once you are done, that fluffy fringe will cover up any raw edges and stitches.
Here’s what it looks like if you molest your pillow and look really close. I promise, no one will ever do this. If someone does, they are a pervert .
Once the fringe is in its natural place, it will hide that stitch! Lovely! Live with it, soil it, rinse, and repeat.
Look how pretty she looks. And no one would ever guess that she had a makeover. No Dr. 90210 needed here.
